Wangolina A Series Tempranillo
$30.00
Grown in the Mundulla region of the Limestone Coast, Tempranillo is a Spanish variety that thrives in a moderate Australian climate. It is earlier to ripen compared to our other red varieties and Tempranillo was our first ‘alternate’ variety we dared to dabble with.
The grapes are crushed and cold macerated for 48hrs before 12 days on skins under a wild ferment. It is then matured in seasoned French Oak barriques for maximum Tempranillo expression.
Our Tempranillo shows focused aromas of raspberry, black cherry, ripe juicy fig and raspberry edges. Wonderful varietal tannins provide a soft chalky texture beneath the fruit, carrying into the delicious savoury backbone framed with a kiss of cedary oak tannins & a linger of green tobacco and rosemary. Incredible with a local lamb chop on the BBQ.
92 points – Tom Kline – “Lifted and sweet pops of red and black cherry, cherry blossom, raspberry and red plum lead the way with baking spices beneath and some rosemary to follow. The palate is equally bright and lifted with fruit notes akin to the nose, rosemary again, and a line of chalky tannins to wrap it all up. Vibrancy and brightness define this wine, with good structure adding dimension.”
91 points – Mike Bennie – “The labels look great. The reinvigoration of the region comes with clever thinking and people like Anita Goode. The wine satisfies beyond the left-of-centre appeal. Perfect storm. This is a ripe and fun red, pretty with its sweet, red cherry motif and pomegranate juice overlay, nice with spice, touchy with white pepper, a lick of cola and we’re all good. Juicy and bright, slippery texture, a cool finish long in the distance. It drinks a charm. I imagine myself in a regional town, far away from big smokes, getting stuck into a local Aussie-Chinese meal. Super yum. All over it. Get in.”
